Material of expansion screw

2023-09-04

Expansion screws, also known as expansion bolts or anchor bolts, are commonly used in construction and engineering applications to provide a secure and strong anchoring point for heavy loads and structures. These screws are made from different materials, each with its own unique properties and benefits. In this article, we will take you through the commonly used materials in our company.

1. Material of expansion screw:Carbon Steel

More than 90% of our company's expansion screws are made of carbon steel, because it can provide good usability. And compared to other fasteners, the price of all materials is also relatively cheap. However, carbon steel has poor corrosion resistance and requires electroplating for corrosion protection.

2. Material of expansion screw:Stainless Steel

Stainless steel contains a small amount of carbon and is mixed with other alloying elements. Nickel is one of the most commonly added elements because it has a strong anti-corrosion function. According to the different nickel content, it can be divided into 200 series and 300 series. At the same time, there are other series, but because they are rarely used in our products, they are not listed.

The 200 series mainly includes 201 and 202, which do not contain nickel, are very hard, and are not as corrosion-resistant as other series. It will be a little rusty after a long time, and it is not used much.

300 series mainly include: 304, 316, 316L.We usually use 304 and 316.

3. Material of expansion screw:Brass

Brass is a soft metal that is easy to machine and has excellent resistance to corrosion. Expansion screws made of brass are best suited for use in decorative applications, where the look of the screw is just as important as its functionality. Brass expansion screws are commonly used in furniture and cabinetry assembly.

Brass is brittle and easily broken because it is too soft. It is not suitable for cold heading. Among the products of our company, there are mainly brass drop in anchors, usually are 59 copper and 62 copper.

4. Material of expansion screw:Nylon

Nylon expansion screws are a lightweight and inexpensive alternative to other materials. These screws are ideal for use in applications where weight and cost are important considerations. Nylon expansion bolts are commonly used in the installation of electrical boxes and other lightweight fixtures.

5.Material of expansion screw:Alloy

The alloy referred to by our company is zinc alloy, which is mainly used for some specific expansion screws.

Zinc plated steel is another popular material choice for expansion screws. This material is coated with a layer of zinc to protect against corrosion and rust. Zinc plating also gives the screw a shiny finish, making it an attractive option for indoor applications. Zinc plated expansion bolts are commonly used in drywall and other material fastening applications.

6.Material of expansion screw:Aluminum

Blind rivets are the most used aluminum in our company.

Expansion screws are available in different materials to suit the specific needs of different applications. Stainless steel is the most popular choice due to its superior strength and resistance to corrosion, while zinc plated steel is commonly used in interior or dry environments. Brass is a great option for decorative applications, and nylon is a lightweight and affordable solution for lighter loads. When choosing the right material for your expansion screw, consider the environment, load requirements, and desired appearance or finish.
