What are the Parameters of Linear Actuators?

2024-01-30

Linear actuators have become an important part of numerous industrial, automotive and home applications. But understanding the key parameters of linear actuators is crucial to choosing the right actuator for your application. In this article, we will explore the key parameters of linear actuators to help you choose the right actuator for your application.

1. Load capacity

The load capacity, also known as the maximum force capacity or load rating of the actuator, refers to the maximum weight or force that the actuator can handle. This parameter is critical because insufficient load capacity can lead to actuator failure, while excessive load capacity can lead to excessive actuators, resulting in additional costs. For example, the small and micro linear actuator, the load will be relatively small, because of its own volume limitations, the general customer requirements of the thrust between 100N-500N will be more. And thrust is inversely proportional to speed.

2. Length of travel

The stroke length is the distance that the electric linear actuator can be extended or shrunk, to choose the appropriate stroke according to its own iron frame structure, you can adjust the stroke length to meet different application needs, the general unit is millimeter. This parameter is essential because it determines the overall range of motion of the motor. The stroke length of the actuator can vary from a few millimeters to several meters according to the requirements of the application. When choosing a linear actuator based on stroke length, you must consider the space available in the application and the maximum stroke distance required.

3. Speed

The operating speed of the electric linear actuator, generally measured in millimeters per second, is another key parameter that affects the performance of the electric linear actuator. The speed here refers to the speed at which the electric linear actuator extends or contracts. Actuator speeds can range from a few millimeters per second to a few meters per second, depending on the requirements of the application.

4. Installation dimensions

Confirm the push-pull distance and product space required for the equipment, and reserve space to accommodate the micro linear actuator for better installation.

5. Protection level

The protection level of the electric linear actuator is generally expressed by IPXX international standards, the first X indicates the dust protection level, and the second X indicates the waterproof level.

6. Working voltage

The operating voltage range of the electric linear actuator, expressed in volts (V). The DC voltage used is 12V, 24V, 36V.

For the micro electric linear actuator, the use frequency is not more than 20%(continuous work for 2 minutes, rest for 18 minutes), because the motor is a brush DC motor, if more than this frequency, the motor will heat, resulting in the severity of motor damage. By taking the time to understand these parameters, you can choose the right actuator for your application and ensure that it operates efficiently and reliably.
